Amaro Magipe: A Guide to Women’s Activities (in Greek)

The Project “Amaro Magipé: Actions for the Empowerment of Roma Women and Youth” was launched in May 2023 and was implemented by SolidarityNow in partnership with Lighthouse of the World and the Cultural Association of Roma Women residing in Drosero, Xanthi “Elpida-Hope”.

This initiative included activities and training sessions aimed at socialization, skill development, awareness-raising, violence prevention, psychosocial support, and the overall empowerment of Roma women and youth.

As part of this effort, the scientific team of SolidarityNow organized activities for women and teenage girls in the settlements of Dendropotamos (Thessaloniki) and Pelekas (Katerini) on a regular basis, as well as individual activities in the settlement of Drosero (Xanthi) and the municipality of Pavlos Melas.

The goal of this guide is to document the women’s and teenage girls’ empowerment activities conducted within the initiative and to serve as both a resource and inspiration for future empowerment programs. We have sought to combine scientific knowledge and previous experience in organizing group activities and facilitating communities with insights gained through direct engagement with the participating women—through observation, discussions, and feedback.

Many of the activities were implemented across different communities, each with its distinct characteristics and needs.

As a result, variations of the activities emerged, tailored to each group’s interests and unique traits. This material is open to modifications and adjustments and can serve simply as inspiration for the creation of entirely new initiatives.

After all, every group of women and teenage girls is unique, and the success of empowerment activities depends on embracing and leveraging that uniqueness.
