EEA Grants: Standing by the most vulnerable to build an inclusive society.

Social inclusion and support for vulnerable groups—especially children—are essential for a sustainable and just society.

Social inequalities and the refugee crisis have emerged as unprecedented challenges globally. Organizations embodying the spirit of solidarity are offering meaningful support to vulnerable groups, including in Greece.

Through a network of social inclusion programs, innovative actions, and partnerships with the Greek state and NGOs, the EEA Grants—a financial mechanism primarily supported by Norway, as well as Iceland and Liechtenstein—strengthen social cohesion and work to reduce inequalities.

At the heart of the EEA Grants’ social programs, which have supported numerous projects in Greece for 30 years, is the project “Strengthening the Capacity of the General Secretariat for Vulnerable Citizens and Institutional Protection (GSVCP).” This project includes targeted interventions to protect vulnerable populations, such as unaccompanied minor refugees and migrants.

The project has strengthened the ability of the GSVCP to provide comprehensive services at its reception centers, covering needs such as housing, food, medical care, and psychological support. Unaccompanied minors are often at increased risk, and through this initiative, they have been protected from potential exploitation, trafficking, and violence, gaining access to safe accommodation structures. It also promotes their gradual integration into the new society they have arrived in.
