Roma Inclusion and Empowerment
Enhanced inclusion and empowerment of Roma
The programme aims to address the most acute housing challenges of the Roma population in Greece within a holistic framework. Housing is one of the key priority areas for effective Roma integration measures in the EU Member States, which also include employment, education, and health, as well as the promotion of equal treatment and the respect for the fundamental rights of Roma. The focus on housing was selected because it affects critical access to, regular attendance, and attainment in education, as well as providing the conditions for living in a healthy environment. Furthermore, it impacts employment opportunities and potential for entrepreneurship. In addition, the implementation of a Taskforce Unit in areas of high concentration of Roma populations will ensure the effective implementation of the national strategy of Roma inclusion as it will partake in the support of local government and the activation of the Roma population in all policy measures concerning social inclusion (housing, education, employment, health, empowerment, etc.).
