With two open events in Thessaloniki, as part of the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival, and in Athens at Zappeion Hall, along with the unveiling of a special art installation, we proudly celebrated three decades of the EEA Grants’ impactful presence in Greece.

For over 30 years, donor countries—Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway—have significantly contributed to sustainability, social inclusion, and the promotion of human dignity through a wealth of initiatives. These efforts have supported vulnerable groups, driven the green transition, and strengthened democracy.

Thessaloniki: Film Festival highlights

The first of our two celebratory events took place in Thessaloniki on Saturday, November 2, at 1 PM, in Frida Liappa Hall at Warehouse D, as part of the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival. During the event, government officials, representatives from donor countries, local authorities, and EEA Grants beneficiaries shared their insights and experiences.

The highlight of the event was the debut of the art installation “30 Years–30 Images.” This remarkable piece, crafted from wood, metal, and other sustainable materials, showcased 30 stunning photographs of pivotal EEA Grants projects.

Athens: Open dialogue at Zappeion Megaron

The second celebration was held in Athens on Tuesday, November 12, at 5 PM in Zappeion Hall. Representatives from both donor and beneficiary countries engaged in an open dialogue on how EEA Grants have contributed to reducing inequalities and strengthening bilateral relations. This gathering also provided an excellent opportunity for networking and exchanging ideas about Europe’s future and the role of social solidarity.

A busy month of reflection and recognition

On November 13, we hosted our Annual Meeting, marking the final gathering of the current funding period. Participants included donor country representatives, Program Operators, and Implementing Entities, who reflected on the progress, lessons learned, and preparations for the upcoming funding cycle (2021–2028).

The month concluded on a high note in Brussels, where we presented our communication efforts celebrating the EEA Grants’ 30-year milestone at the Annual Communications Meeting (Fall edition). For the third consecutive year, Greece was honored to showcase a best practice in communication among 15 beneficiary countries.
